DMT is a not-for-profit organisation and was initially legal-hosted by KHRC in Kenya. DMT was founded in 2008 with the goal of entrenching human rights and democratic values in Kenya via human rights films screening.
DMT is one of the leading human rights civil society organizations that uses multi-media tool in community disseminations forums and advocates on the power of multi-media technology such as video and mobile phone in human rights and good governance.
Our film programming is geared towards transitional justice. It focuses, especially on the injustices that youth and women continue to suffer but also on the belief that youth and women should be able to participate freely in all aspects of governance, conflict transformation and post-conflict reconstruction.
In 2008, DMT launched a film festival dubbed ‘Reflections of Healing’ with a total budget of Kshs. 10 million. DMT focused on governance, democracy and human rights, and a wide range of participants attended the forums, including members of the government, civil society, stakeholders, representatives of various community-based - and faith-based organisations and the general public.
