About

The Education Centre for Women in Democracy (ECWD) was established and registered by Kenyan women an official, non partisan and not for profit national capacity building lobby and advocacy institution. It holds Consultative (Roster) status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Mission
To increase the presence of women in leadership and decision making positions with focus on quality and capacity, and to work towards creation of a more conducive social, political, economic and democratic environment for the equal participation of women.

Vision
A well structured society that's socially, politically and economically developed, with the full and equal participation of women and men in leadership and decision-making.

Objectives
1. To intensify and strengthen civic and human rights education initiatives for the masses;
2. To enhance awareness about women as mainstream political players and demystify politics for all women;
3. To improve public perception and reception of women's leadership;
4. To promote the participation of young women in public and leadership.

Area of Focus/Thematic Areas

ECWD efforts have been aimed at: ensuring greater women’s participation in leadership and decision making, human rights, and gender relations. To achieve this, ECWD strives to:

1.To enhance awareness about women as mainstream political players; raise the self esteem of women as leaders in the society; de-mystify politics for all women; provide support for women politicians and elected officials at all levels;

2. To strengthen Civic Education initiatives for purposes of encouraging informed choices at election; promote the prevention of human rights abuses and violation;

3. To promote democratic society in Kenya in which women participate fully, actively, freely and equally in politics, in public affairs through the electoral system and as voters and leaders; promote equal opportunity for women and lobby for improved social welfare and other services for all Kenyans. Promote issues of special concern for women;

4. To support and lobby for world peace as well as encourage international cooperation and abolition of all forms of oppression, racism, chauvinism,sexism, social bigotry, exploitation and discrimination.
