National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia said that the country is not ready for the elections in August since measures are not in place to guaranteeing Kenyans free and fair electionacceptable to all.
The Chairman who was speaking in Nyeri during the third annual democratic governance civil society week said that the government and civil society must sit down and dialogue to ensure that the election is held at the right time since for sure the right measures have not been put in place. “This commission is currently training media and the police to ensure that election offence such as incitement which liked to 2007 chaos are not repeated in the forthcoming elections,” he added.
Head of Operations European Union Bernard Ray who also attended the forum told the civil society group that they must account for billions of shillings they are given by donor community for participation process in the constitution implementation process.
He said that civil societies must prove that they have moral authority to challenge the government by ensuring that they are accountable and of high standards of financial discipline.
