Youth delegates at a joint UNDP/Youth Agenda Forum to mark the International Day of Democracy (IDD) in Kenya called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to reduce the nomination fees required for candidates to participate in the March 2013 general elections. Over 2000 youth activists and other stakeholders attending a forum to commemorate the International Day of Democracy (IDD) argued passionately that the nomination fees which range between $12,000 for presidential polls and $3000 for local County Assembly seats, were prohibitive and discriminatory as majority of young Kenyans were not in a position to raise these amounts. .
