Many residents in Isiolo do not understand the contents of the new Constitution, a month-long survey by an NGO has shown.
The survey by Isiolo based Friends of Nomads International (Foni) indicates that even the literate members of the society have no knowledge of the contents of the Constitution and the implementation process.
"We were surprised that even professionals like teachers have low understanding of the new Constitution and what it portends for new county governments," said Foni coordinator Yussuf Dogo.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting for communities living in Isiolo yesterday, Mr Dogo said there was need for locals to be educated on the Constitution and how the county governments will operate.
Train stakeholders
Under the ‘Amkeni Wakenya’ (wake up Kenyans) civil society governance project funded by the United Nations Development Fund, Foni has been conducting a series of stakeholders meetings in the County to sensitise the residents on the Constitution and its implementation process.
Foni will embark on training of stakeholders like teachers, civil servants and community representatives on the Constitution at location levels and the networks would in turn teach the residents at grassroots.
