Civil Society Calls on NCIC to take Action against Politicians

Civil society has challenged the National Integration Commission to take serious actions against politicians who may be planning to incite Kenyans to violence during the 2012   elections

Speaking during the  official opening of UNDP Amkeni Wakenya offices  in Westland’s, Nairobi, Ms  Monica  Amolo who is the Executive Director of  Women Shadow  Parliament noted that Kenyans  will only have faith if  action is taken against  high ranking individuals.

 Ms Amolo was responding to remarks earlier made by the Chairman of the NCIC Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia who had indicated there is high level of preparedness in the country to prevent any voice come 2012 General Elections.

Dr  Kibunjia  said  that an early warning  system  such as  the Uwiano Platform established  under 2010 Referendum will be  put in place where  security forces  will work in tandem  with NCIC and the  civil society  to avert any  possibilities of violence

The Chief   guest at the official Opening, Mr. Aeneas Chuma who is the UNDP Resident called on country the refocus all its energies in the implementation of the Constitution.

 Mr Chuma noted that a lot of Kenyans sacrificed    and died during the 20 years old struggle for the Constitution. ’’It is imperative that this very progressive constitution be implemented without   delay’’ he said.

 Mr. Chuma lauded the efforts of development partners who are partnering with Amkeni Wakenya to support citizen participation in the implementation process.  In particular he commended the European Union, the Embassy of Sweden, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands and the Norwegian Embassy for supporting the democratization process in the country. He also noted   that UNDP is in the process of coordinating support to the Commission on the Implementation of the Constitution, which will enable this crucial body to steer the implementation process effectively.
